A few minutes on the nonprofit Maggie Baird founded to treat hunger and the climate crisis as one problem.

Mission

Support+Feed combats the climate crisis and food insecurity by working toward a global shift to an equitable, plant-based food system.

Read the mission

Their mission fights two things at once. Which pair?

Most food charities pick one. Support+Feed refuses to, because the fix for one is the fix for the other: get more plant-based food onto more plates, in the places that have the least choice about what lands there.

The model

Support+Feed buys the food it gives away from small plant-based restaurants in the same neighborhood it is feeding.

One dollar does two jobs: somebody eats, and a local kitchen stays open.

There are four moving parts.

Part one
Buy local

Plant-based meals, bought from local and minority-owned restaurants at what they call an equitable rate. Not donated leftovers.

Part two
Hand off to people already there

The food goes to community organizations working in food deserts. There is no Support+Feed storefront.

Part three
Teach while you feed

Every delivery carries educational tools about why plant-based matters, so the meal is not where it ends.

Part four
Tell it loudly

The same recipes and tools go out to a global audience online. That is how one delivery in one city becomes a habit somewhere else.

The arithmetic underneath

The bill for
a calorie.

Meat and dairy take up what share of the world’s farmland?
30%
0%100%
83%

Meat and dairy use 83% of farmland and 40% of the water that goes into producing food. What comes back out is 18% of our calories and 37% of our protein.

That gap is the whole argument. It is not that animal food is worthless. It is that it is an extraordinarily expensive way to buy a calorie, on a planet that is running short of room.

What it costs the air
16.5%

of all global greenhouse gas emissions come from animal agriculture. That is the floor, not the estimate.

Take in the number

Roughly what else emits about that much?

Emissions from animal agriculture are similar to the emissions from all global transportation. Every plane, ship, truck and car, combined.

It is also the single biggest driver of habitat and biodiversity loss on Earth. Food still gets left out of the climate conversation, which is the gap Support+Feed was built to sit in.

The thing you can actually do

One meal.
Thirty days.

One plant-based meal a day, for thirty days. Not vegan. Not forever. Not every meal. One.

The other half of the job

Feeding people
is half of it.

They also convene. Overheated is a grassroots, youth-led climate summit Support+Feed runs alongside Billie Eilish, FINNEAS and Maggie Baird, putting activists, scientists and musicians in one room to argue about fashion, food, justice and burnout. It began in London during Billie’s O2 residency and has since run in Atlanta and Berlin.

The same logic travels. On the Hit Me Hard And Soft tour, fans could take the plant-based pledge at a Support+Feed station inside the venue, next to 27 food drives on the same run of shows.

An Overheated climate summit session

And it shows up fast when a city needs it. After the January 2025 fires in Los Angeles, Support+Feed turned its existing restaurant partners into a relief line, running plant-based meal distributions for people who had lost their homes. The network was already there. It just pointed somewhere else.

“Plant-based food is not the only solution to climate change, but there is no solution without it.”
